Rich Tehrani has good story about the emergence of Pingtel’s open-source PBX solution at Amazon. They’ve adopted it for use as their phone system. This matters because it flies in the face of the naysaying narcissists at Cisco, who are as quick to bash open-source as they are to offer a free, 100% Cisco RFP design tailored to benefit their heaviest discounters in the sales channel. Very cool. For the unitiated, Pingtel’s SipX suite is a lot like Asterisk, though arguably more modular and, some would argue, less resource-sparing. Pingtel is providing the consulting for this implementation. Nice work, guys.
