Close Collaboration with Universities and Colleges Close Collaboration with Universities and Colleges

Modeled after the Kuali Foundation, SIPfoundry partners with higher education institutions to collaborate in the development and deployment of a communications system made for EDU by EDU.  University environments are different, more diverse, and typically very cost conscious.  We developed a bold vision of a new research network that is fully communications enabled and allows seamless communications between research communities globally.  As part of the SIPfoundry University program we collaborate with institutions of higher education to replace their legacy (IP) PBX systems with a cost effective, powerful, and reliable open source solution.  The results are impressive.

"Our campus selected sipXecs because it was necessary to invest in a product that allowed us to save money and collaborate with our peers," said David Rotman, Associate VP for Technology CIO, Cedarville College. "We are confident that this program will enhance our ability to communicate and is well suited to meet the learning, research and academic needs of our university and others."

A Bold Vision for a New Research Communications Solution A Bold Vision for a New Research Communications Solution

sipXecs allows for the creation of a global research community communications infrastructure using a person's email address as the global 'phone number'.  Rich media communications using the research network backbone among all participating institutions and without the need for a traditional carrier results in unprecedented flexibility.  As you don't pay for sending individual emails, communications will be free as well.  In realizing this vision, sipXecs in cooperation with participating institutions will replace legacy (IP) PBXs to become the institution's sole solution for communications - phone, video, IM, presence, conferencing, unified messaging and mobility.

SIPfoundry EDU Policy and Technical Councils SIPfoundry EDU Policy and Technical Councils

The SIPfoundry Policy Council (SPC) governs the activities undertaken in cooperation between institutions of higher education and the SIPfoundry community.  All member organizations have a seat at the SPC, which is where decisions are taken regarding product direction, EDU specific roadmap, integration into other applications used in the EDU community as well as cooperation with other organizations that serve the EDU IT market, whether not-for-profit or commercial.

The SPC is assisted by a SIPfoundry Technical Council (STC) to deliberate technical aspects, provide input and guidance, as well as technical expertise when it comes to integration into the EDU environment.  Each member institution has a seat at the STC.

Both SPC and STC are govern by a set of by-laws.  The SPC is represented at the SIPfoundry board. Every institution of higher education can become a member and profit from a unique form of cooperation, developing the most complete, feature rich, and scalable unified communications solution for EDU, K12 schools, and local & state government.  Sign up today to receive additional information or contact us.

A project often starts small and once proven in a controlled environment institutions realize the potential of sipXecs.  The sipXecs solution has proven to scale to large deployments up to about 10.000 users.  It offers the features required to replace a legacy (IP) PBX.  It integrates with a Microsoft environment, and offers an open alternative.  It is much more than telephony.  If you are on a tight budget and have big and bold plans for your communications environment, follow our lead and join SIPfoundry.
